In which we go from dunes to red rocks.

It was a half-and-half day today – this morning we had a 4wd excursion from Swakopmund into the Namib-Nakluft national park. It’s the same park that we visited at Sossusvlei and Deadvlei, but this time we enter from the north side. It was an amazing experience as it’s an area where massive sand dunes come all the way down to the sea.
Once back in Swakopmund, it was a quick change into riding gear and onto the bikes. The run to Spitzkoppe was only 160 kms, with 130 kms on the highway, passing trucks and being passed by speeding cars. This is probably the most dangerous type of driving we do on this tour – makes the dirt riding look safe.
There was a 30 km stretch of dirt into the camp where we are staying. We are now not intimidated by Namibian roads and can handle the sketchy, sandy, corrugated tracks. Oh – and I have a new bracket holding my handlebars on. It’s not the actual correct part but in true bush mechanic style, the boys found a riser bracket and drilled some holes to make it fit. She’ll be right!
The camp where we are staying is a tented camp. They are glamping style tents – I’ve got a comfortable bed as well as a shower and toilet.
We rode around the stoney mountain to a viewing point to watch the sunset. A couple of us rode around on our bikes on a fun little 4wd track, then watched the sun go down through a rock arch.
All up, life is pretty good! 😀
